چکیده

We present the numerical solutions for the PDE-constrained optimization problem arising in cardiac electrophysiology, that is, the optimal control problem of monodomain model. The optimal control problem of monodomain model is a nonlinear optimization problem that is constrained by the monodomain model. The monodomain model consists of a parabolic partial differential equation coupled to a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations, which has been widely used for simulating cardiac electrical activity. Our control objective is to dampen the excitation wavefront using optimal applied extracellular current. Two hybrid conjugate gradient methods are employed for computing the optimal applied extracellular current, namely, the HestenesStiefel-Dai-Yuan HS-DY method and the Liu-Storey-Conjugate-Descent LS-CD method. Our experiment results show that the excitation wavefronts are successfully dampened out when these methods are used. Our experiment results also show that the hybrid conjugate gradient methods are superior to the classical conjugate gradient methods when Armijo line search is used.

Second Order Numerical Solution for Optimal Control of Monodomain Model in Cardiac Electrophysiology

Abstract. In this article, second order numerical methods for optimal control of the monodomain equations in cardiac electrophysiology are presented. The monoand bidomain equations are well established as a major building block for describing the the wave propagation of the action potential in the human heart. The mathematical model equations consist of a non-linear parabolic partial differenti...

On the hybrid conjugate gradient method for solving fuzzy optimization problem

In this paper we consider a constrained optimization problem where the objectives are fuzzy functions (fuzzy-valued functions). Fuzzy constrained Optimization (FO) problem plays an important role in many fields, including mathematics, engineering, statistics and so on. In the other side, in the real situations, it is important to know how may obtain its numerical solution of a given interesting...

A new hybrid conjugate gradient algorithm for unconstrained optimization

In this paper, a new hybrid conjugate gradient algorithm is proposed for solving unconstrained optimization problems. This new method can generate sufficient descent directions unrelated to any line search. Moreover, the global convergence of the proposed method is proved under the Wolfe line search. Numerical experiments are also presented to show the efficiency of the proposed algorithm, espe...

In this work adaptive and high resolution numerical discretization techniques are demonstrated for solving optimal control of the monodomain equations in cardiac electrophysiology. A monodomain model, which is a well established model for describing the wave propagation of the action potential in the cardiac tissue, will be employed for the numerical experiments. The optimal control problem is ...

However, the proof of Theorem 2.1 in [1] is incorrect due to an erroneous inequality which used to indicate the descent property for the s...
